Promotion of the Code
The Commission works with departments to help them promote the core values of the Civil Service as outlined in the Civil Service Code.
The Civil Service Commissioners took on this role in 2003 at the suggestion of the Committee on Standards in Public Life, and with the support of the Cabinet Secretary.
In 2007, the Civil Service Commissioners, working in conjunction with the Cabinet Office and a group of Permanent Secretaries produced a best practice checklist of actions (PDF, 1 page, 51KB) for departments to uphold and promote the Code.
The Civil Service Commissioners worked hard to find various ways to help departments to promote the values in the Code. For the past few years the Civil Service Commissioners sponsored the Cabinet Secretary’s Award at the Civil Service Awards. The award goes to a team or individual that has communicated or displayed the values in their work. They have also run Question Time sessions on the Civil Service values at Civil Service Live events in London, Gateshead and Manchester.
The Commission will continue to seek to find engaging and effective ways to help departments to promote the values in the Code.
